Following the recent acquisition of Pretivm, Newcrest now own and operate the Brucejack Mine located 65 kilometers north of the town of Stewart in northern British Columbia. 

The Brucejack underground mine is one of the largest and highest-grade gold mines globally and as of January 1, 2021 has proven and probable mineral reserves of 3.9 million ounces of gold (14.4 million tonnes grading 8.3 grams per tonne gold) with a mine life of 12 years.

The Opportunity:

We currently have a number of temporary employment opportunities for a Rope Access Technician in our winter 2022 seasonal Snow Removal Team supporting the success of the Surface Operations Team at the Brucejack Mine in Northwestern, British Columbia.

The Rope Access Technicians on our Snow Removal Team have an important role in ensuring the safe, efficient high angle snow hazard removal from our camp buildings and operational infrastructure at the Brucejack Mine. The position also ensures compliance with all company Health & Safety and other relevant policies and regulations.

Responsibilities:

Perform the following duties, with safety being the number one priority:

  • Snow Hazard Removal at heights.
  • Implement proper Rope Access procedures for all rope access projects.
  • Snow clearing from AWP.
  • Daily Equipment and Rigging Inspections.
  • Implementing and following Field Safety program.
  • Daily Hazard reporting.
  • Monitoring weather conditions and related operational hazards.
  • Assisting with the maintenance of plant infrastructure and communications towers.
  • Other duties and responsibilities to support the success of the Brucejack Mine.

About You:

  • Sprat/IRATA training (Level 1, 2, and 3).
  • Fall Arrest Training.
  • Previous experience with high angle snow hazard removal at a remote industrial operation.
  • Level 3 Occupational First Aid training is desirable.
  • Grade 12 or GED with a valid driver’s license is preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Positive approach to work and supporting others to be successful.
  • Physically fit, able to lift 50lbs.
  • Able to follow all safe work practices.
  • Able to follow direction.
  • Able to work long shifts outside in variable mountain weather conditions
  • Work at remote location (camp) on a 13 days on/13 days off rotation.
  • Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening.
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift.
  • Be able maintain high levels of performance over 12 hour shifts.
  • Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions.
  • Able to work in close quarters with the team.
