About the Opportunity:  

We currently have exciting opportunity for Mine Engineer Student to join the Brucejack Mine in Northwestern, British Columbia.

The Mine Engineer Student’s position is located at Pretium Exploration Inc.'s "Pretivm" Brucejack site within the Technical Services Department. The position will also require work from the Smithers and Vancouver offices from time to time. The position’s primary report is to the Chief Mining Engineer or designate.

Job Purpose and Accountability

The purpose of the Mine Engineering Student is to assist and support the engineering team at the Brucejack Mine with underground design, layout and construction. The incumbent is also responsible for researching, collecting and tabulating engineering data to support the safe and efficient implementation of mine development engineering systems in a safe, professional, and timely manner.

Responsibilities:

Perform the following duties with safety being the number one priority:

  • Conducts research to determine location and methods of extracting minerals while collaborating with the geological personnel to determine location, size, accessibility and estimated value of mineral deposit
  • Conducts research, collects & analyzes data and recommends lay-out design for mine construction operations such as location, development of shafts, tunnels, chambers and position of ore bodies and waste
  • Assists in the design, development and implementation of projects such as water and power supply/distribution, ventilation and drainage control
  • Researches and devises methods and locations for storage/stockpiling of excavated ore and waste materials
  • Analyzes labor requirements, equipment needs and operational costs to compute and prepare operational budget reports
  • Creates and maintains cash flow models
  • Research and ascertain extraction risks while using computer software applications to maximise planning, production and extraction systems and techniques
  • Plan and schedule regular mine maintenance activities, repairs and improvements
  • Inspect air ventilation and quality at mining areas on periodic basis
  • Communicate project updates, recommendations, concerns and expense to senior staff
  • Identify problems in mining processes and develop appropriate resolutions
  • Monitor and communicate operational issues/concerns with mining contractors
  • Providing feedback and identify opportunities to enhance mine designs and plans to successfully develop the project
  • Conduct other activities to support the safe, efficient and successful development of the Brucejack Project
  • Understand and ensure compliance with Pretivm safety policies and governmental safety regulations including Ministry of Mines and WorksafeBC
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

Position requirements include, but are not limited to:

Enrolled in a 4 year Post-Secondary Mining Engineering Degree program with zero to three (0 - 3) years of experience in an underground mining environment.

Skills:

  • Very strong spreadsheet and word processing skills (i.e. Microsoft Excel and Word)
  • Proficiency with relevant mining software programs (i.e. AutoCAD, MineSight, or Vulcan etc.)
  • Experience with databases (Microsoft Access) is an asset.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills (English)
  • Leadership, planning, organizational, analytical & problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures
  • Cross cultural awareness & understanding

Additional Information:

  • Work at remote location (camp) on a 13 days on, 13 days off, 2 travel days schedule
  • Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift
  • Be able maintain high levels of performance over 12 hour shifts
  • Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions
  • Able to work in close quarters with the team
