About the Opportunity:  

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Power Generation Technician to join the Brucejack Mine in Northwestern, British ColumbiaThis is a full time position that will work onsite on a rotating shift of 13 days on and 13 days off.

This position is located at Pretium Exploration Inc.'s "Pretivm" Brucejack site within the Surface Heavy Shop Department. The position’s primary report is to the supervisor or designates.

Job Purpose and Accountability:

To ensure all mechanical stationary equipment related to the building, construction and site operation(s) are maintained in safe and working order, while supporting.

The position also ensures compliance with all Pretivm Health & Safety and other relevant policies and regulations.

Responsibilities:

Perform the following duties, with safety being the number one priority:

  • Operate State of the Art, automated and computerized control systems, diesel engines and auxiliary equipment such as boilers, pumps, and compressors, and other ancillary equipment used to generate electrical power, providing heat and power for the Site
  • Start up and shut down power plant equipment, assist electricians with switching operations, communicate with Mill Control room operators to regulate and co-ordinate the transmission and frequencies of loads and line voltages
  • Monitor and inspect plant equipment, temperatures, pressures and fuel flow, to detect leaks or other equipment malfunctions and to ensure plant equipment is operating at maximum efficiency
  • Analyze and record instrument readings, equipment malfunctions, and keep accurate logbooks
  • Troubleshoot and perform corrective actions and minor repairs to prevent equipment or system failures
  • Clean and lubricate engines and generators, pumps and compressors, light plants and perform other routine equipment preventative maintenance duties, using appropriate lubricants, utilizing hand, power and precision tooling
  • Maintain a daily log of operation, maintenance and safety procedures
  • Operate and monitor computerized switchboards and auxiliary equipment in electrical control centers to control the distribution and to regulate the flow of electrical power in the transmission network
  • Monitor and visually inspect station service instrumentation, meters and alarms to ensure voltages and loads are within prescribed limits and to detect equipment failures, line disturbances and respond to outages
  • Inspect and repair underground doors and large compressors that feed underground air requirements.
  • Other tasks as required.
  • Participate in any other site specific training

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience servicing power generation and standalone engines.
  • Interprovincial (Red Seal) certification

Skills:

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in the maintenance of diesel and gasoline mobile and stationary equipment, preferably in an industrial or heavy industry setting
  • Experience with maintenance of underground mobile equipment would be an asset
  • Valid driver’s license for any vehicle that may be utilized for the job
  • Certification in workplace hazardous materials information system (WHMIS)
  • Certification in Transportation of dangerous goods (TDG)
  • Experience serving and repairing CAT 3516 and C18 engines.

Additional Assets:

  • Work at remote location (camp) on a 13days on/13 days off, 12 hour shift plus two travel days.
  • Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift
  • Be able maintain high levels of performance over 12 hour shifts
  • After hour call outs in the event of power outages.
  • Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions
  • Able to work in close quarters with the team
