About the Opportunity:  

We currently have exciting opportunity for a Project Geologist  to join the Brucejack Mine in Northwestern, British Columbia.

From time to time work responsibilities may require the Project Geologist to be based out at the Brucejack Mine. The Project Geologist reports directly to the Chief Mine Exploration Geologist or designate.  

The Project Geologist’s primary responsibility is to supervise and participate in all aspects of the geological logging and sampling of drill cores at the Knipple core facilities. The role will involve the geological analysis and interpretation of diamond drill core, transcribing that information into the company’s logging software, and as assisting with sample preparation and shipment. The incumbent may also be required by Pretium to assist in or supervise other activities such as production, exploration, and/or environmental related projects.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties:

  • Ensure geological and sample data is collected, interpreted and documented correctly and efficiently.
  • Provide guidance and assistance, where necessary, to the Geological Technicians with the sampling of drill cores and the preparation of sample shipments.
  • Conduct routine quality and validation checks on the geological and sample database as prepared at the core logging facility to ensure database integrity.  Take ownership and responsibility for the quality and integrity of the database, ensuring protocols in place to prevent input/entry errors (e.g., sample mislabelling, sample identification tag mixups, cut-and-paste errors, typographic errors, etc.). 
  • Prepare daily geological summary reports, including mineralized intersections and other important features, for the Vancouver head office.
  • Prepare sample submissions to assay laboratories with proper QA/QC protocol.
  • Detailed photography of drill cores and visible gold samples for recordkeeping.
  • Consult/coordinate with contractors and relevant site personnel to have sample shipments delivered to the laboratory in a timely manner.
  • Organize daily crew duties and evaluate crew performance and make recommendations for change where required.
  • Review and ensure supplies and materials inventories are kept up-to-date.
  • Ensure safety is given highest priority and document/report any related safety incidents and infractions in the appropriate manner.
  • Be a leader and role model for safety & health, environmental, and community relations initiatives, supporting policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a professional work environment and encourage technical excellence from project/contract geologists, technicians and field assistants.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with Pretivm safety policies and governmental safety regulations including those of the Ministry of Mines and WorkSafeBC.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Accountability:

Through direction from the Chief Mine Exploration Geologist, this position is responsible for the geological logging of drill cores, and the supervision of sample preparation (i.e., determination of sampling intervals) and shipment. The work will have both an indoor and fieldwork aspect, so the Project Geologist will be responsible for ensuring they have the appropriate clothing, equipment and PPE for working in variable weather conditions and within rugged, mountainous terrain.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or equivalent.
  • Flexibility in geological thinking, with a high level of innovation and ability to take the initiative when necessary.
  • Solid geological interpretive and analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to data and database quality and integrity. 
  • Strong commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
  • Strong communication, planning, time management and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Core Logging Software an asset.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures.
  • High level of written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical, supervisory and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, community and the environment.
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements and procedures.
  • Cross cultural awareness with an understanding and sensitivity on the challenges associated with differences in cultural and economic backgrounds.
  • Environmental awareness with a commitment to minimize the impacts inside and outside of the mine footprint.

Additional Information:

  • Work at remote location (camp) on a 14 days on, 12 days off rotation, and 2 travel days.
  • Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening.
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift.
  • Be able to maintain high levels of performance over 12 hour shifts.
