About the Opportunity:  

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Apprentice Automotive/Light Equipment Mechanic to join the Brucejack Mine in Northwestern, British Columbia.

This position is located at Pretium Exploration Inc.'s "Pretivm" Brucejack site within the Surface Maintenance Department. The position's primary report is to the Mobile Maintenance Supervisor or designate.

Job Purpose and Accountability:

The purpose of this position is to assist in the maintenance and repairs of the company’s  light  duty vehicle fleet in accordance with relevant codes. The Apprentice Automotive Mechanic is accountable for the safe and timely provision of these services under the guidance of a Red Seal Journeyman Automotive Mechanic in an effective and efficient manner in accordance with all relevant codes and regulations. Through Guidance and consultation with the Journeyman Mechanics  this position  ensures  all vehicles and light equipment and safety guidelines are maintained to high industry standards.

Responsibilities:

Perform following duties, with safety being the number one priority:

  • Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of automotive systems including fuel system, brakes, steering and suspension, engine and drive train, emission control and exhaust, cooling and climate control, and electrical and electronic systems using hand tools and other specialized automotive repair equipment under the guidance of the Journeyman Mechanic
  • Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer's performance specifications
  • Responsible for condition of shop and parts management
  • Perform scheduled maintenance service, such as oil changes, lubrications and tune ups
  • Inspect and test mechanical units, such as engines, transmissions, axles and brake systems, to locate faults and malfunctions
  • Learn to diagnose faults or malfunctions and confirm findings with supervisor to determine whether to repair or replace unit
  • Repair or replace mechanical units or components using hand and power tools
  • Test and adjust units to specifications for proper performance
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Must have a strong desire to learn all aspects of Automotive Mechanic trade.
  • Grade 12 or equivalent including English 12
  • Apprenticeship & Workplace Math or Trade Mathematics 11 and Applied Physics or Science and Technology 11
  • Able to satisfy all entrance requirements to enrol in the trade program

Skills:

  • Must have strong mechanical aptitude and desire to learn
  • Strong desire to gain knowledge of code regulations regarding mechanical repairs
  • Detail and results oriented with the ability to adhere to shifting priorities and deadlines
  • Good mathematical, scientific, mechanical and logical reasoning abilities
  • Must be able to take direction and follow instructions of Journeyman and/or Supervisor

Additional Information:

  • Work at remote location (camp) on a 13 days on / 13 day off rotation / 2 travels days
  • Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift
  • Be able maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shifts
  • Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions
  • Able to work in close quarters with the team
