We are Pretivm – a Canadian mining company, headquartered in Vancouver, BC, owns and operates the high-grade underground Brucejack gold mine located 65 kilometres north of the town of Stewart in northern British Columbia. About the Opportunity:  

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Bus Driver in Smithers, British Columbia.

This position is located at Pretium Exploration Inc.'s  Office / Warehouse in Smithers, British Columbia with driving responsibilities between Smithers, BC and Kitwanga, BC and return as required. The positions primary report is to the Director, Supply Chain or designate.

Job Purpose and Accountability:

This position  is for the following role: Bus Driver. The Bus Driver  is responsible for safely transporting employees to and from Smithers and the pick-up points along the way to Kitwanga and return. Drivers must have good communication skills both oral and written to interact with fellow drivers, Logistics and Dispatch, and passengers. Commitment, patience, maturity and initiative are required qualities.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive safely, responsibly and be prepared for all road conditions
  • Respect fellow employees, and equipment
  • Pre and post trip checks of the unit each time it is used, emphasis on ensuring adequate fluid levels
  • Complete all applicable paperwork required
  • Maintain radio contact and use proper radio protocol
  • Manage passenger behavior by quickly and effectively solving problems
  • Communicate with Logistics and Dispatch at your scheduled time, prepared and ready to go
  • Maintain a clean and orderly bus
  • Complete and submit all pre-trip inspections for all defects
  • Must attend required safety meetings and other training sessions
  • Report unsafe conditions
  • Report all safety incidents
  • Use safe work procedures
  • Cooperate with the employer through involvement in all aspects of health and safety management systems
  • Perform other duties as assigned including the warehouse assistant duties. 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Minimum Class 2 driver’s license with clean driver’s abstract
  • Able to load light cargo
  • Must be capable of driving a 28 passenger bus and variety of light vehicles including Pick ups and vans
  • Organized, punctual and reliable
  • Team player with a positive attitude
  • Calm, pleasant and helpful manner
  • Excellent driving skills and habits
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all parties

Safety Expectations:

  • Follow OH&S regulations regarding reporting of unsafe conditions
  • Correct unsafe conditions
  • Make suggestions
  • Comply with applicable regulations and policies
  • Know where registration, inspection and collision reporting document papers are located
  • Report to work well rested
  • Driver must carry their license with them when on duty

Additional Information:

  • Must be willing to drive in extreme and varying weather conditions that may include heavy snow and rain
  • Must be able to adjust to driving in varying weather conditions snow, mud, dust, rain
  • Work schedule is variable but will occur Monday to Friday daytime and certain night runs.
  • Able to work in close quarters with the team
