We are Pretivm – a Canadian mining company, headquartered in Vancouver, BC, owns and operates the high-grade underground Brucejack gold mine located 65 kilometres north of the town of Stewart in northern British Columbia. About the opportunity:
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Metallurgist to join the Brucejack Mine in Northwestern, British Columbia.
The Senior Metallurgist position is located at Pretium Exploration Inc.'s "Pretivm" Brucejack Mine and reports to Metallurgical Superintendent.
Job Purpose and Accountability
The Senior Metallurgist’s primary responsibility is to ensure that Metallurgical functions operate in a safe & environmentally responsible manner to achieve safe, efficient gold production. This position assists with the development, design, implementation, and execution of Pretivm’s metallurgical processing operations.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support & trouble-shooting expertise to the operations and maintenance teams to ensure metallurgical & production issues are resolved in a timely manner & performance optimized.
- Work closely with the Metallurgical Superintendent & Geology Team to develop processing concepts that maximize extraction and reclamation of mineral resources.
- Lead the Mill Metallurgy team in delivering process test work and scale-up to feasibility standards and oversee processing options that minimise environmental impacts.
- Ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with federal, provincial and company legislation, regulations and standards, respectively.
- Lead and support all aspects of laboratory test work covering grinding, gravity concentration, flotation, concentrate & tailings dewatering, water treatment & paste quality evaluation.
- Monitor and improve mill operating performance, reduce waste and delays, promote cost reductions and achieve a high level of operating efficiency.
- Monitor and analyze key metallurgical & production performance indicators and recommend corrective actions to the Mill Superintendent.
- Ensure consumable consumptions are in line with the operating budget and optimized.
- Assist the Mill Superintendents to coordinate continuous improvement projects.
- Generate daily, monthly & annual metallurgical reports.
- Lead the metallurgical team to perform circuit gold inventory & develop a metallurgical balance on bi-weekly basis.
- Oversee installation of mill processing systems and participate in testing and commissioning of plant systems and operations.
- Work with marketing department to ensure timely product shipments, shipping logistics and product tracking procedures are followed and developed.
- Commit to maintaining company safety, health, environmental & security standards and policy. Work with safety, environmental and security departments to achieve goals and promote safe and sustainable workplace practices.
- Assist the Mill Trainers in development of SOPs and training programs.
- Work with finance department to ensure tracking of operational costs and capital budgets are followed and met.
- Provide leadership and guidance to metallurgists, metallurgical technicians and other members of the metallurgical department to promote personal development and advancement.
- Coordinate with accommodations and logistics the schedules for metallurgists, technicians and consultants to site.
- Work with the assaying department and lab to ensure safe, efficient operations through scheduling, ordering and mechanical repair oversight.
- Work with the mill maintenance department to ensure safe, timely and thorough repair of mill processing equipment
- Keep accurate records of work performed and ensure communication between metallurgical teams is maintained.
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering combined with a minimum of seven to ten (7–10) years of experience in mineral processing, extraction and gold recovery. Significant experience in project & process management is required.

Additional Information:
- Able and willing to work at a remote camp location on a 2 week rotation schedule.
- Must be fit for work and pass medical screening.
- Comfortable working in close quarters with the team & in extreme weather conditions.
