We have an opening for a new position of Site Human Resources Manager at our Brucejack mine site located in Northwest British Columbia. This position is located at Pretium Exploration Inc.'s “Pretivm” Brucejack Mine Site, British Columbia.  The Site Human Resources Manager role reports directly to the Director of Human Resources, with a dotted line reporting to General Manager (or designate).

Job Purpose & Accountability:

The purpose of this position is to guide and manage the overall provision of Human Resource services, policies, and programs to support the operation of the Brucejack Mine related to recruitment and selection; organizational departmental planning; employee engagement and recognition; investigation and resolution; performance management and improvement systems; employment and compliance with regulatory concerns regarding employees; employee onboarding, development, needs assessment, and training; employee relations; and the support of core corporate Human Resources functions including analysis and metrics.

This position works directly with all site supervisors, mine management and the Brucejack Mine General Manager to ensure the timely execution of related HR activities, duties, responsibilities and accountabilities are handled in a safe and efficient manner.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversee the implementation and delivery of Human Resources programs through and with the site HR team
  • Develop an effective and efficient site-based management system and team to manage the flow of HR responsibilities
  • Provide guidance, advice, direction, assistance and coaching to departmental managers and site-based leadership on all employee matters to help strengthen work relationships, increase morale and productivity
  • Develop and administer programs, procedures, and guidelines to help align the workforce with the strategic goals of the company
  • Build and maintain relationships between site employees, site leadership and human resources to create awareness and understanding of HR strategies and philosophies
  • Partners closely with department leaders on job design, organization structure and capturing job descriptions, individual objectives and expectations to ensure clear roles and responsibilities in all functions
  • Direct and coordinate site HR work activities relating to employment, culture development plans and employee relations
  • Take part in challenging conversations with employees and act as a support to both the employees and the leaders
  • Assist in the development of succession planning, talent review and mine site labour model reviews and planning
  • Implement established programs such as the performance review cycle and compensation review cycle for operations
  • Develop and manage internal/external training and recruitment programs, including workforce planning and interviewing, and assist with activities as required, such as the Snow Removal and Seasonal program
  • Analyze statistical data and reports to identify and determine causes of personnel problems and develop recommendations in partnership with departmental managers for improvement of organization's personnel policies and practices.
  • Lead the implementation and monitoring of strategic human resource planning that is aligned with Pretivm’s strategic business and HR plans
  • Assist in the development of protocols to foster strong community relations and participate/deliver information sessions potential employment opportunities and/or training initiatives for communities at large
  • Conduct workplace investigations and recommend appropriate course of action, in alignment with Pretivm's Behaviour Improvement Program
  • Responsible for developing and executing site HR department budget
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to site HR team members
  • Other HR activities as needed to support the success of Brucejack Mine

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Human Resource Management, Business, or Organization Development with a minimum 8 years of progressive leadership experience managing and delivering all aspects of Human resources administration, operations, in a mining or natural resources or industrial environment is preferred.
  • CPHR designation preferred.
  • Experience working with Indigenous and First Nation communities
  • Experience with JD Edwards is an asset.

Skills:

  • Seasoned knowledge of HR principles, policies & procedures, and strong understanding of the Employment Standards Act in British Columbia and other related employment legislation
  • Strong interpersonal relationship building and coaching skills at all levels
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop HR department staff members
  • Strong analytical, time management and organizational abilities
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to make difficult decisions with the challenges of conflicting priorities and evaluate situations in an objective way
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office suite required
  • Cross cultural awareness with an understanding and sensitivity of the challenges associated with differences in cultural and economic backgrounds

  • Able to work at remote location (camp) on a rotational schedule, i.e. 14 days on/12 days off
  • Be able maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shifts
  • Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions
  • Able to work in close quarters with the team
