About the Opportunity:  

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Site Civil Engineer  to join Pretium Exploration Inc.'s "Pretivm" Brucejack Mine in Northwestern, British Columbia.

The Site Civil Engineer position is located at Pretium Exploration Inc.'s "Pretivm" Brucejack Mine and reports directly to the Mine & Technical services manager or designate.

Job Purpose and Accountability

The Site Civil Engineer primary responsibility is to undertake duties required to assist the Mine Operations team to plan, design and oversee the improvement and the maintenance works of the access road, the design and monitoring of the glacier road, the design of seasonal quarries and act as responsible person for the operation of the tailing storage facility at the Brucejack mine site. The Site Civil Engineer will use his skills to analyze survey reports, maps, blueprints and other topological or geologic data.

Responsibilities:

The Site Civil Engineer responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and manage civil projects to modify or add facilities and infrastructure (example- upgrading and building new accommodation, constructing a road, quarries and tailing storage facilities (TSF), building new structures for the mill, opening up new sections of the mine, water and waste management systems and structural steel fabrications)
  • Supervise or direct and do surveying work, inspections or technical studies related to topography, soil, water flow, networks of water supply, road infrastructure, buildings, and structures to collect data for realization of projects
  • Plan pre-construction requirements, construction staging, schedule, and coordinate with contractors
  • Provide technical support and operational targets to tailings Mill Operations as needed to ensure the ongoing safe and effective deposition to meet design and storage requirements
  • Collect and maintain tailings data and produce regular reports
  • Track costs associated with tailings activities and manage critical parts inventory
  • Assist with water management and water balance calculation related to tailing and site-wide water systems
  • Develop construction specifications and procedures
  • Coordinate with the members of the engineering team and conduct research to determine project requirements
  • Ensure construction plans meet guidelines and specifications of building codes and other regulations
  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate building and construction materials
  • Establish, monitor, maintain and update construction work schedules
  • Conduct feasibility studies, economic analyses, environmental impact studies or other investigations
  • Overall on-site responsibility and oversight for all parties and activities related to the waste rock and tailings storage facility
  • Coordinate development of Waste Rock and Tailings Storage Facility Operation, Maintenance, and Surveillance Manual (OMS); lead annual review and update
  • Oversee implementation of OMS; ensure Department Leads and Qualified Professionals understand responsibilities per the OMS
  • Accountable to ensure implementation and maintenance of waste rock and tailings deposition Standard Operating Procedures and Emergency Response Procedures
  • Ensure the waste rock and tailings deposition area is operated in accordance with facility designs and mine permits
  • Identify scope and budget required for waste rock and tailings management
  • Manage the tailings facility including:
    • Establish and maintain relationship and ongoing communication with the EoR
    • Ensure inspections are completed
    • Implement an Independent Review process
  • Coordinate and contribute to the development of life of mine (LOM) and annual waste rock and tailings deposition plans
  • Report to the Mine Management, and Accountable Executive Officer on performance of waste and tailings management
  • Understand the Health, Safety, and Reclamation Code for Mines in BC requirements and industry standards related to tailings management
  • Supervise technicians, technologists and other engineers and review and approve designs, calculations and cost estimates
  • Conduct Peer Review of Engineering Designs, and Engineering Calculations as required to ensure "Best For Project" designs, best industry practice and compliance with codes, standards, regulations, Cementation and Standards
  • Prepare procurements documents including drawings and information for distribution
  • Document construction works using plans, sketches, photos, technical reports and site reports or any other relevant documents

Qualifications:

  • A Civil Engineering degree
  • Minimum 8 – 10 years of relevant engineering and construction experience in large capital projects
  • Experience in the mining industry specific to road design/construction quarries, tailings storage facilities
  • Previous experience with glacier road construction is considered an asset

Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of civil engineering and project management practices, along with a good level of understanding of the various engineering disciplines
  • Experience in CAD software, such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Highly tech savvy and proficient in MS Office suite
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey complex ideas
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to drive for results through planning, team alignment and execution
  • Able to work in an outdoor setting and in adverse weather conditions.

  • Work at remote location (camp) on a 13 days on/13 days off rotation
  • Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift
  • Be able maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shifts
