About the Opportunity:
The Geological Assistant position is currently located at Pretium Exploration Inc.'s "Pretivm" Brucejack Property, BC. The Geological Assistant reports directly to the Project Geologist - Core Shack Lead or designate onsite.
The Geological Assistant’s primary responsibility is the collection of geotechnical information from drill cores and the preparation of sample shipments. They may also be required to support the Mine Exploration Geology team in other aspects of geological exploration and/or environmental field work.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties:
- Coordinate, transport and unload core into the core logging facility.
- Collect and document geotechnical data from drill core
- Prepare sample materials to streamline sampling of drill core
- Prepare sample submissions to assay laboratories with proper QA/QC protocol
- Assist Geologist with logging, photography or any other needs
- Demonstrate awareness and commitment to health, safety, community and environmental protection in keeping with Pretivm Resources Inc.’s goals and objectives
- Assist exploration or environmental contractors with surface and/or underground programs
- Assist seasonal Research Geologists with field activities and sample preparation
- Mentor new Geological Assistants and ensure ongoing workplace and safety training occurs
- Demonstrate awareness and commitment to health, safety, community and environmental protection in keeping with Pretivm Resources Inc.’s goals and objectives
- Perform other related duties as required
Skills:
- Strong commitment to teamwork and collaboration
- Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift
- Must have strong communication skills and be able to follow direction from supervisor.
- Must have computer skills with MS Word and Excel
- Previous fieldwork and drill core experience would be an asset.
- Able to complete daily traverses (hikes) in highly-variable, high altitude mountainous terrain (ridgelines, slopes, snow covered surfaces, glaciers)
- Able to work in extreme weather conditions
- Strong communication, time management and organizational skills
- Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures
- Valid Class 5 drivers licence is preferred
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Brucejack Camp on a rotation of 13 days on, 13 days off rotation, and 2 travel days.
- Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening
- Must come to work with proper footwear (Steel Toe), warm clothes and waterproof jacket.
- Be able to maintain high levels of performance over 12 hour shifts.
