About the Opportunity  

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Carpenter to join our maintenance team at the Brucejack Mine in Northwestern, British Columbia.

You will report to the Building Maintenance Supervisor or designate, and work a rotating schedule encompassing 13 days on, 13 days off with 2 travel days.

Responsibilities:  

Responsibilities will include:

  • Learn to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements.
  • Assist in preparation of layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools.
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials.
  • Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems.
  • Fit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, molding and hardware.
  • Maintain, repair and renovate residences and wooden structures in mills, mines, industrial plants and other establishments.
  • Participate in any other site-specific training.
  • Maintain, all tools utilized within the scope of the position.
  • Other relevant duties as required.

Qualifications:

Position requirements include but are not limited to:

  • Must have a strong desire to learn all aspects of Red Seal Carpenter trade.
  • Able to satisfy all entrance requirements to enroll in the trade program.
  • Valid driver’s license for any vehicle that may be utilized for the job.

Skills:

  • Must have building craft aptitude and desires to learn Carpentry trade.
  • Strong desire to gain knowledge of regulations regarding building codes.
  • Detail and results oriented with the ability to adhere to shifting priorities and deadlines.
  • Good mathematical, scientific, mechanical and logical reasoning abilities.
  • Must be able to take direction and follow instructions of Journeyman and/or Supervisor.

Additional Information:

  • Work at remote location (camp) on a 13 days on / 13 day off rotation / 2 travels days.
  • Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening.
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift.
  • Be able maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shifts.
  • Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions.
  • Able to work in close quarters with the team.
