About the Opportunity:  

We currently have an exciting temporary opportunity for a Health & Safety Advisor– Emergency Response to join Pretium Exploration Inc.'s "Pretivm" Brucejack Mine in Northwestern, British Columbia. 

This position is located at Pretium Exploration Inc.'s "Pretivm" Brucejack site within the Health & Safety (H&S) Department. The position reports to the H&S Superintendent and alternatively to the H&S Manager’s designate(s).

Job Purpose and Accountability:

The purpose of the position is to assist in the development, implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of the sites Emergency Response Program (ERP) and Occupational Health and Safety System. As a part of your duties will be the ERT Training. The role provides H&S support and advice to Supervisors, Employees and Contractors, with the goal of continuously improving the site safety culture.

Responsibilities:

Preform the following duties with safety being the number one priority:

  • Develops mandatory training requirements and calendar schedule for all mine rescue team members at Brucejack, Knipple and Wildfire camps.
  • Assists with implementing and delivering site emergency response awareness training to all employees, supervisors and contractors. Ensures content is continuously updated to address risks/changes/improvement
  • Delivers emergency response training in all aspects of site emergency preparedness including operating procedures and guidelines for the Mine Rescue/Emergency Response team, Incident Command, and IMT, which include tabletop and mock drill exercises.
  • Identifies and evaluates potential emergency scenarios and risks and revises the existing site MERP (Mine Emergency Response Plan) as necessary.
  • Identifies all site emergency response equipment requirements and procurements based on identified site risks and priorities
  • Maintains and regularly inspect ERT equipment, ensures all equipment is in good working condition. Completes all ERT reports accurately and within specified deadlines
  • Conducts regular workplace inspections and identifies opportunities for safety improvements with regards to ERT equipment, fire extinguishers, etc.
  • Inspection on refuge stations in the underground mine
  • Ordering supplies for the underground refuge stations
  • Inspections on Fir extinguishers, eyewash stations and AED checks
  • Acts as ERT Coordinator in the event of a site emergency situation.
  • Coordinate medical evacuation of all work or non-work emergencies and support medical team together with Logistics for all transfers.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records associated with the position
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of and adhere to all applicable legislation, standards and guidelines. Leads with influence to adoption new standards where applicable
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

Professional certification in Health and Safety from a recognized establishment

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Underground Mining, processing activities, and operations
  • 2-7 years’ experience as an emergency response member which include Captain/ERT Coordinator duties.
  • Proven experience of Emergency Response, mine rescue, firefighting, first aid, and the willingness to act as a leader in emergency situations
  • Thorough knowledge of high-risk activities such equipment lockout, confined spaces, work at heights, hot work, heavy equipment, rigging, etc.
  • Good computer skills in Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to identify and plan daily activities that align with the position with minimal supervision or guidance
  • Strong understanding or BC Mines Regulations and WorkSafe OHS regulations
  • Certification in Mine Rescue, Firefighting, and advanced first aid would be considered an asset
  • OHS certification or diploma would be considered an asset
