About the Opportunity:
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Assayer - Lab Trainer to join the Brucejack Mine in Northwestern, British Columbia.
This position is located at Pretium Exploration Inc.'s “Pretivm” Brucejack. The Assay Lab Trainer’s primary report is to the Chief Assayer or designate.
Job Purpose and Accountability:
The incumbent will provide training to assay lab employees in all areas of assay lab operations including, but not limited to: sample preparation, fire assaying and wet assaying (digestion and instrumentation).
Responsibilities:
The Assay Lab Trainer’s responsibilities include:
- Providing on the job training to sample preparation technicians, fire assayers, and wet assayers to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) in the daily functioning of the assay lab
- Track, maintain and report on training records and initiatives in the assay lab
- Prepare, update and maintain SOPs and training materials related to lab operations, and other sampling procedures
- Assist the senior and chief assayers in establishing measurable goals and levels of competency for each lab position and trainees
- Liase with the Geology department, Safety department, Metallurgy department and Mill operations department to ensure training of other employees as it relates to sample preparation and sample delivery
- Conduct routine inspections on equipment, work procedures, corrective/preventive maintenance and supplies inventory to ensure safe and efficient operations are being conducted
- Make recommendations for improvements in lab operations to improve safety, efficiency and productivity
- Assist chief assayers, senior assayer and superintendents to identify talent & develop career paths & provide progressive training to maintain skilled employees.
- Participate in root cause analysis and incident investigation as required
- Work with vendors and suppliers to ensure equipment and software use follows established procedures
- Working in corroboration with the Chief Assayer, Mill Trainer & Health & Safety trainer, develop a training program for the assay lab
- Assist senior assayers in ensuring safe and efficient operation of the lab
- Provide coverage for senior assayer duties when needed
- Other duties as required
Qualifications:
Position requirements include but are not limited to:
- Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in relevant field is an asset
- 7 years minimum assay lab experience covering sample preparation, fire assaying, acid digestion and instrument operation (LECO carbon and Sulfur Analyzer, Agilent ICP-OES, and AA)
- Experience with both commercial lab and mine site lab is an asset
- Knowledge on lab QA&QC is an asset
- Familiar with the BC Mines Act and Regulations
- Knowledge of underground mining and mill processes is an asset
- Knowledge of industrial hygiene
Skills:
- Excellent written and oral communication in English is required
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Applications is required
- Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) experience is an asset
- Experienced in writing technical procedures
- Excellent class room training, hands on training and presentation skills
- Supervisory experience is an asset
Additional Information:
- Work at remote location (camp) on a 14 days on/12 days off rotation, and 2 travel days
- Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening
- Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift
- Be able maintain high levels of performance over 12 hour shifts
- Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions
- Able to work in close quarters with the team
