Following the recent acquisition of Pretivm, Newcrest now own and operate the Brucejack Mine located 65 kilometers north of the town of Stewart in northern British Columbia. 

The Brucejack underground mine is one of the largest and highest-grade gold mines globally and as of January 1, 2021 has proven and probable mineral reserves of 3.9 million ounces of gold (14.4 million tonnes grading 8.3 grams per tonne gold) with a mine life of 12 years.

The Opportunity:

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Mill Maintenance Superintendent  to join Newcrest Exploration Inc.'s "Newcrest" Brucejack Mine in Northwestern, British Columbia. This is a full time position that will work onsite on a rotating shift of 13 days on and 13 days off.

The Mill Maintenance Superintendent’s position is located at Newcrest Exploration Inc.'s "Newcrest" Brucejack Mine and reports directly to the Mill Manager or designate.

The Mill Maintenance Superintendent’s primary responsibility is to oversee the development, implementation and optimization of an asset maintenance and management strategy that provides mechanical and equipment capability, reliability and availability of all milling equipment and infrastructure at the Brucejack Mine. In addition, this position is responsible for developing, directing and monitoring planned preventive and predictive maintenance programs for the greatest operating profit while maximizing equipment efficiencies as per manufacturer’s specifications.

  • Supervise, co-ordinate and schedule the activities of Planners, Millwrights, Welders, Electricians, Plumbers, Instrument Technicians and maintenance service contractors
  • Establish work schedules and co-ordinate activities with project managers, surface, mill operations and environmental managers, superintendents, and supervisors
  • Effectively monitor all milling and process operations to ensure that manufacturer’s established operating procedures and best practices are adhered to and downtime on all equipment is recorded and accurately reported
  • Develop and implement an asset management system/strategy to ensure that reports on equipment availability/failures are compiled with recommendations for equipment usage/change based on report findings
  • Manage data collection and information gathering to provide planned maintenance service more effectively in future
  • Develop and maintain accurate maintenance plans and service schedules in an environment of ever-changing priorities
  • Provide work scope planning for daily, weekly, and long-term maintenance activities to ensure goals are achievable within the maintenance schedule
  • Evaluate effectiveness of maintenance systems and implement alternative procedures if deemed necessary
  • Coordinate and manage labor, parts and equipment in a timely and effective manner in order to meet maintenance schedules
  • Work with the warehouse to manage stock levels and focus on vendor quality and service to provide the optimum lead-time for maintenance plans
  • Prepare and manage operating and capital budgets
  • Managing and controlling working costs and capital budgets
  • Resolve work problems and recommend measures to improve productivity
  • Train or arrange for training of workers while supervising and scheduling the activities of related apprentices, helpers, and labourers
  • Other related duties as required

About You:

  • Red Seal Millwright certification is required for this position combined with a minimum of fifteen (15) years’ mill maintenance experience, five (5) of which must be at the superintendent level.
  • A strong background in project management and coordination is necessary with demonstrated experience supervising multiple trades within mining environment.
  • Experience in coordinating start-up and troubleshooting of new process facilities is an asset.
  • Strong demonstrated knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures
  • Demonstrated Management abilities in both technical and operational settings
  • Strong background in process plant control strategies and with control systems
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (English)
  • Exceptional organizational, leadership, supervisory and conflict management skills
  • Computer software skills (word processing, spreadsheets)
  • Ability to work at remote location (camp) on a 13 days on/13 days off rotation
  • Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift
  • Be able to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shifts
  • Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions
  • Able to work in close quarters with the team
