Following the recent acquisition of Pretivm, Newcrest now own and operate the Brucejack Mine located 65 kilometers north of the town of Stewart in northern British Columbia. 

The Brucejack underground mine is one of the largest and highest-grade gold mines globally and as of January 1, 2021 has proven and probable mineral reserves of 3.9 million ounces of gold (14.4 million tonnes grading 8.3 grams per tonne gold) with a mine life of 12 years.

The Opportunity:

The Lead Hand Housekeeper is to assist the Housekeeper Supervisor with the planning, organizing, and developing of the overall operation of the housekeeping department in accordance with the local standards and guidelines along with ensuring that quality care is maintained at all times. To share the responsibility of staffing, training, and developing hourly staff.

The position also ensures compliance with all Newcrest Resources Inc.'s "Newcrest" Health & Safety and other relevant policies and regulations. The successful candidate will be accountable for the overall hygiene, cleanliness and organization of the facilities. As well as adhering to all health and safety regulations and company standards/policies and procedures.

Perform following duties, with safety being the number one priority:

  • Supervise the daily activities of the Housekeeping Department to include appropriate cleaning of all rooms, hallways and common areas for all the facilities.
  • Foster a proactive safety culture for the housekeeping team. Ensure that staff is working safely, in accordance with Newcrest policies and department SOPs.
  • Work with accommodations to ensure that daily check-ins and check-outs flow smoothly.
  • Perform daily inspections to ensure high standards of hygiene and cleanliness throughout all the facilities, and follow up to promote high quality, consistent work from the housekeeping team.
  • Manage inventory of housekeeping supplies.
  • Provide training and instruction to the housekeeping team.
  • Plan, organize, and direct nightly workload for the housekeeping team.
  • Issue keys, room lists, check lists and work assignments to the housekeeping staff at the beginning of shift and collect at the end of shift.
  • Ensure that staff is properly trained on use and care of equipment, report any equipment deficiencies.
  • Organize training of new personal.
  • Housekeeping responsibilities, laundry duties (washing folding), cleaning rooms, cleaning washrooms, common areas and completes all other duties as required.
  • This is a field leave supervisor working position and requires a minimum of 75% of your time spent completing site housekeeping tasks daily.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
    o Participate in education programs and trainings.
    o Attends meetings as required.
    o Complete assigned task in a professional manner and with the time frame provided.
    o Represent the department with a professional and positive attitude

About You:

  • Previous experience managing a team of housekeeping employees through motivation, coaching and development
  • Supervisor experiences is an asset but not required
  • The ability to multitask, anticipate guests needs, and to changes goals/ direction quickly.
  • Working knowledge of rooms management system
  • Knowledge of Housekeeping processes and procedures.
  • Proven excellence in customer service
  • Capable of using independent judgement/ solid decision-making ability
  • Must be able to interact effectively with management, front office, and guests.
  • Verbal communication skills that allow others to clearly understand your meaning.
  • Ability to write clearly and effectively using proper English conventions
  • Capable in Microsoft office, committed for further training.
  • Must be able to effectively manage own time as well as that of the housekeeping team.
  • Ability to teach others
  • Ability to work at remote location (camp) on a 13 days on/13 days off rotation
  • Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift
  • Be able maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shifts
  • Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions
  • Able to work in close quarters with the team
